CRICKET PAVILION  NAMING
           
          In memory of
            
            Geoffrey  William Lees (1st July 1920 – 17th August 2012) 
            Headmaster  of St Bees School from 1964 to 1980
           
          The Pavilion  Naming will take place at 2.45pm on 
            Saturday 13th September, as part of St Beghians’ Day.
          Geoffrey Lees was educated at King’s School, Rochester  before attending Downing College, Cambridge. His great love was cricket and  whilst studying at Downing College, Lees made his first-class debut for Cambridge  University against Essex at Fenner's. He made a second first-class appearance in that  season for the university against Middlesex also at Fenner's. He later made a  first-class appearance for Sussex against Leicestershire in the 1951 County  Championship 
            at the County Ground, Hove. Mr Lees was also an excellent Squash and Eton Fives  player.
          It is a  privilege to welcome Joan, his wife for many years, to open the Cricket Pavilion  at St Bees, which bears his name.
